How do you cope with existential crises and the fear of death?

Sometimes I get sad thinking about the fact that we're all gonna die one way or another or that death is something that can be unexpected. One day you could be fine and then the next day you could get into some kind of accident. Do you guys feel the same? If so how do you cope with it?

i think it's a constant challenge to both live in the moment and allow oneself to live tomorrow. you know? we can't always explicitly confirm love or hate if tomorrow comes, even though we always kind of want to.

sometimes i cope with such thoughts and worries by reading kierkegaard or poetry or--the best option of all--by watching joe versus the volcano. (have you seen it, @placidSail4000?)

This is a great topic I think and I'm glad that you brought it up. I personally find that even though we all know about death (everything living dies eventually) it's often swept under the rug because it's too hard to talk about and nobody want's to think about.

Your fears are absolutely justified. It's terrifying to think that one day our lives could be over without any notice. I do think though that for the most part people do live long lives, and if we let the idea of dying consume our thoughts it can be exhausting, draining and force us to stay out of the moment.

I think part of coping with it is knowing that yes, it does happen, yes, statistics will say we live long lives but also - it's exhausting to think about it.

I also think that it's important to tackle our own fears about death too, as sometimes this can make things easier. Is the process of dying scary to you? Is dying too soon going to cause a lot of regret? How do you feel about your life now? Sometimes knowing that things can change and that life can be short can encourage us to really think about the things that we value and what's important to us.

Yes I do.

But, at the same time I always thought, well since everyone is in the same boat anyways, might as well just live my day to the fullest! :)
That's how I cope anyways.
