I want out

I want out of the life I live. I want to leave my husband I've not been in love with him for quite some time and he knows it. I tried to leave but his dad talked me into coming back just for the kids so they could all be raised together. I get to live here rent free in exchange for cooking and cleaning and so forth. But I've given up all independence. I was talked into quitting my job years ago I have no money of my own. I'm basically living as a slave in exchange for a roof over my head and it's crazy to me I let it get to this.

Hi, I am sorry you feel this way. This must be very hard to deal with and thnk about :(

My humble suggestion is to start by not thinking about yourslf like a slave. That is such a negative and harmful word.

Please understand, I think I know a LITTLE about how you feel, and I truly believe you feel so terrible. You do a lot of work at home and you are not in love with your husband. How terrible!

But please, maybe as a first step, don't consider yourself a slave. All of your feelings are legitimate and there is a lot of work to do. You are in a very confusing and difficult position. It will take work, but it will get better! You have food and a roof over your head. You have children that I am sure you love!

Think about your children; how is your relationship with them? How much do you love them (I am gonna guess you love your kids more than anything in the world!)

Next, you were talked out of working... So, is it possible to find a job, even a part time job? What are you good at, and what do you like to do?

Love you.

I wouldn't think of myself as a slave if I wasn't expected to work all day every day. If my husband or his parents want anything and I don't do it immediately I'm told that's how I earn my roof over my head. I love my kids more than life itself that's why I'm tolerating being treated this way. And as far as working I've been told if I get a job I'll be kicked out because clearly I'll have to be there at least part time and in that time my responsibility here will be neglected so I've been told if I work I might as well just accept I no longer have a home. I'm a CNA I've got over 10 years experience I could find a good job quickly
