I had depression for about a year when I started at university. I felt terrible. I was constantly crying and I considered self harming. I did not self harm though. I did not have the courage to do it. I was scared of letting my family down. I am the only person in my family who has been to univrersity. My mum did not help the sityation. She told me that I had no right to be depressed.

@crimsonMelon8700 I +voted your post because I am proud of you. I am proud of you for having the courage to NOT self-harm, I am proud of you for being the first person in your family to go to university for higher studies and most importantly, I am proud of you for seeking out support here. I would also like to apologize for your mother's sake that you've been told you don't have the right to be depressed. No one chooses depression, it happens when it happens. Please don't be down for one person's misjudgement even though I know words hurt, but think about all the other people that love you so so much and are so very proud of you. And consider me one of them. Hang in there.

I believe that everybody deserves happiness. It is completely wrong to judge a person just because they have depression. When my mum judged me it made me feel worse. She did not give me support when I needed it. I did get support from my friends but it is not right that my mum was judgemental and it put a strain on our relationtthip. I found the courage to move out and I have started to feel more positive. I still keep in touch with my mum. She is still my mum after all.

I've have depression, and it can get really bad. But coming on here and helping others, helps me. It takes my mind off of the bad things in my own life, and it helps to know that I can actually help people get help for themselves. :) I understand self harm and everything that goes with it. For all my life; I've thought that my story had to be kept hidden. But I've learned this year, that I don't have to keep it a secret. Which is hard to do because that's what I was told my entire life. (I'm still young but yeah xD) But now I use my own experiences to help guide people and understand how they feel and think, and why they do what they do. Depression sucks. ;-;

Believe me, I completely understand what it feels like to be alone. To feel alone; to dismiss people that are trying to help or quotes that are cliche and all that. I am still going through this too. You're NOT alone though. I've actually learned this a few days ago. :)

Of course everyone has the right to be depress. I am very praise how you are aware of your emotion, and try to seek support for yourself. Life can be challenging, but I beleive you'll find the way to overcome. :D
