My brother is depressed / anxiety
Hi I have a brother who's almost 30 and he is depressed. He's currently not working or going to school and stays in his room all day. He lives with my parents and he has tough time "trusting" anyone. He stopped talking to his friends and doesn't talk to many people. I've been trying to be supportive, tried to make him feel motivated but I feel the way he's feeling is getting worst. He told me he has no motivation in life. Currently I noticed he gets really sensitive and has anger issues gets frustrated at the littlest things and assumes at anything for the worst. He doesn't want to get help cause he says "I don't trust them or what they do" and I don't know what I can do for him to open his trust to talk to other people or get motivated again. It's tough in my parents cause they're getting old and they don't know what to do. And I feel like it's a lot on my chest to deal with this situation and it's starting to affect me on my life. If anyone here have any ideas what I can do to help coupe this situation please feel free! I'm open to anything.
@Villz You sound like such a supportive sister. And the challenges of helping a loved one can be overwhelming. One thing to remember is that while you want to help, its still up to that person to accept help. And that doesn't mean you don't keep trying. Does he ever get on 7 cups to see others who are dealing the same issues? Would he go to counseling if you go with him?
@Villz Hi Villz. I am glad you are trying to support your brother at the very best that you can despite it wearing you down. I can understand it is very overwhelming for the family too when a loved one is going through depression. Hugs. I appreciate your support. Keep supporting him but also understand that most of the things are upto him and you can just support him do it. You cannot force him into anything but try to convince him. He must be taken over by so much of thoughts that he may not be able to see through it and push away the help that he is getting in the process. I wish you could get him onto 7cups personally and join the Depression sub community or chat in the Depression support rooms or have 1-1 chats with the listeners here and see there are so many people like him at various stages and coping with it. Just let him know that he is not alone. Things can get better with help and getting help infact is a strength. Bottling everything inside may appear to be the way but it actually isn't. Talking really helps a lot. Thank you Villz for being so supportive and understanding.
I hope your brother is well now , and thank God are there some Angeles in this world like you care and support athers, you can help your brother by encourage him to seek professional help , listening to him, understanding, and help him do some changes like find job ,be more independent, find depression support group if he need it , all those things could help
