I just got back from college and barely had friends I hung out with down there. Most of the time I spent by myself because a lot of the people were fake. I really looked forward to coming back home only to see my best friend who I haven't seen in like 5 months. However, my parents only let me see her like twice a week. The rest of the days I spent working and I was really looking forward to finding true happiness and to just be happy this year. However, my parents are preventing me from doing that and they keep me on a tight leash to where I have a tracker on my car and phone and can't go many places. Even though I just turned 19, they still treat me like a child and I've been dealing with depression and all of the stress they bring on me since I was around 13 or 14. It's gotten to the point where I'm out of options and I just feel like giving up. In life I can only find short term happiness and the good things always outweigh the bad things. I know this may seem small compared to the things others go through, but it’s something that really weighs down my mental.

Hi friendlyspruce! I really sympathize on what you are (and have been) going through... First of all let me just say that whatever you're going through is valid pain - never try to put it down saying the world is going through much more ( the fact that you have the humility to see it is amazing in and of itself too) but remember that every emotion that you feel and the pain you go through is every bit as valid as anything else! Sounds like your parents are quite over protective and in turn damaging you quite a bit! Have you spoken to them about it? Have they provided any reasoning as to why they treat you and keep you on a leash this way? Seeing the side of your parents might help you deal with the situation better.. also I would advise you to express that you feel depressed and more than that I think you have repressed anger at them for treating you like this.. you need to express that to them (anger is not a bad thing if expressed in a healthy way)! And that you need to go see your friend or do whatever for your sake... I hope you find happiness - the world is beautiful, never lose sight of that :)

Hi, yes some parents can be very controlling, I assume you are a Muslim or similar religion, which parents do this, and you feel you need to please them. But you need to live your life, if you need to talk message me on 7 cups
