A Loved One Who Is Depressed
I’m torn and I need some advice. I have someone who is going through some things and they seem depressed. They want to just isolate and be by themselves. I’ve been trying to give them some space but I also care about them and I’m concerned.
Should I push to help get them out of this funk? Should I continue to respect their wishes? How much space is too much space?

Yes, they need space but they also need help. They may not like be involved in conversations when they don't feel like, but on the other hand, they may need help with making appointments with therapist and getting there. There is a lot of inertia in depression. They may resist the initial movement short term, while they will appreciate it in the long run. It it lasts months, i would say they need help.
It is quite the hard dilemma because they aren't thinking. Checking in really regularly (like daily) even if they don't say anything or they just complain can be a godsend. Do offer to try and help them find help from a therapist or doctor. @lovestruck723
Thanks for responding. I will reach out. I’m just nervous about them resisting and pushing me away but I will try.
They may indeed lash out, but that is also okay. They are probably frustrated and feel really unlovable right now.
I would continue to offer support anyway. A simple DAILY message of "I am thinking about you" for the next few weeks or months can be a godsend even if they say nothing in return. To know that you are seen is so helpful when you are depressed. @lovestruck723
@lovestruck723 maybe they dont feel as close to you as you feel to them … or maybe they are pushing you away bc they feel bad but they actually want company. I would just be proactive but not pushy about hangouts and just make it clear that you’re there any time they want to chat or hang out randomly (or whatever the case is)
