Do you feel like medications and CBT make you feel better? My psychiatrist kept switching my meds and all I had was side effects and some mood stability , do they actually “cure “ depression?

It can take a little while to find the right medications, to suit each person and for them to work!

The medication management process can be super long and frustrating! I know from experience and from other's stories. I am sorry you are experiencing so many side effects with only moderate improvement.

My personal opinion, and take this with a grain of salt, is that depression isn't exactly "cured" by medication. There is no treatment that will make it go away forever. Medication mainly addresses some of the symptoms and tends to give you a *boost* so you can have more energy and motivation to use your coping skills.

CBT is a good therapy modality for teaching you ways to cope and reframe thoughts etc. I (personally, this is just my lived experience) tend to prefer third wave therapies like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I particularly enjoyed participating in DBT skills group as I learned a lot of ways to regulate my emotions, deal with distress, and be mindful, which were all helpful in my healing journey. Cultivating a stance of self-compassion and learning to validate myself was key as well.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have about what I posted. I hope this helped.

May you be well,

Shell.
