Family problems cause depression
Hey, my name is Jess. I’m 20 years old. I’m really struggling with family problems right now. Honestly, I think I just need someone who can listen or give advice because I feel like I’m dealing with all of this on my own. For as long as I can remember, my parents have argued constantly. A lot of the arguments are about money because my mom says my dad won’t let her spend money, and sometimes the fights get really intense. Things eventually got to a point where my parents thought I was acting strangely because I was trying to find people online to talk to about everything going on at home. They assumed the worst and ended up kicking me out. I moved about 5 hours away to stay with my aunt. I hoped things would get better, but my aunt is a full-time therapist and was very busy. She told me she couldn’t really provide the support I needed, so eventually she had me go back to live with my parents. Since I don’t drive yet, I had to spend the entire 5-hour drive back with my mom and dad arguing the whole way. It was incredibly stressful. Right now, my cousin wants me to come stay with her because she says she wants me out of what she calls a “hellhole.” My older sister has also talked about possibly coming to get me at some point. That would be nice, but everything feels uncertain and overwhelming. I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety because of it. Part of what made things worse was that while I was staying with my aunt, I spent time with my boyfriend, who lives about 14 minutes away from her. I mainly went to him because I needed someone to talk to and vent to. My aunt ended up telling my parents that I had gone to see him, and my mom got really worried and started believing I was using men as an escape from my problems, which isn’t true. I’ve told her multiple times that she’s welcome to meet my boyfriend, but she always seems to make excuses not to. I feel stuck in the middle of everyone else’s opinions and arguments, and I don’t really know how to handle all of this. I guess I’m just hoping to talk to someone who can help me sort through everything or at least listen. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
@ItsjustJessiejess It does sound difficult. I hope you can afford finding a place soon, where you feel safe and not in the middle of constant fight. It is understandable it can be very draining for you.
