I don't even know who I am

Yes thats right. I don't know who I am. Not in a clueless way but in general. My parents divorced when I was 2 and Ive never see or heard from my dad since. I've never seen any pictures of him or have ever got to know about him as much. My mom is over him and has moved on ( I think) and she knows that she's the one responsible for me. When I was a kid, around 7 or 8, she had sent me to a councellor to help me understand my feelings ( I used to talk and ask about why I don't have a father) and I'm not even sure that helped. But ok. I've always felt the need to be mature and act like I hate him and I don't want to talk to him ever and that's something that came from within and not something taught... I'm not sure if my mom noticed that.. years later when I'm a teen now things are different.. I have different emotions and go through different levels of emotional waves. Also my aunt ( mom's sister ) is the one who stayed for me and my mom to help her. She supports my mom emotionally and financially....

This information is important for what I'm about to tell y'all next.

I feel alone and isolated all the time. Like I don't belong anywhere. It's like every one has a pod and I don't fit into any of them. For my most direct family it's just me and my mom... But for her it's her mom, dad and her sister and brother. Not saying that she makes me feel that way but that's how I see things to be. ( A pod would quite literally included the parents and their children- this is for reff so ppl don't get confused) I've always felt that no matter what she has always had her parents and siblings who are always there for her and I've hardly got anyone. I'm not even close to anyone. Relatives? Nope. My friends? Nope. My dad's side of the family? Nah ah. I'm not close to anyone... And that makes me feel so alone..

I know this doesn't make sense.... I just wrote what I thought.

What you wrote makes a lot of sense, actually.

Reading it, I don't get the impression that you're confused about who you are. I get the impression that you've been carrying a loneliness that most people around you don't fully see. When you're a child who grows up without one parent, people often focus on the absence itself. They ask, "Do you miss your dad?" or "Are you okay with the divorce?" But sometimes the deeper feeling isn't about the parent. It's about feeling like everyone else has a place where they naturally belong, and you're still looking for yours. The way you describe "pods" really stood out to me. You look at your mom and see that, even after everything, she still has her parents, her sister, her brother people who have known her her whole life. You love your mom, but part of you notices that she has roots. And when you look at yourself, it feels like you're standing alone, without that same sense of connection That's a painful feeling and honestly, I think a lot of your sadness isn't because there's something wrong with you. It's because humans are wired to want belonging. We want people who know us deeply, who choose us, who feel like home. When you don't feel that connection with relatives, friends, or your father's side of the family, it can create a kind of loneliness that sits quietly in the background for years. Something else stood out to me too. You said that when you were younger, you acted like you hated your dad and never wanted to talk to him. I wonder if part of that was self protection. Sometimes when a child feels rejected, it's easier to say, "I don't care about them anyway," than to admit, "I wish they cared about me. That doesn't mean you secretly love him. It doesn't mean you need a relationship with him. It just means there may be grief there a grief for the father you never got to know, the questions that were never answered, and the relationship that never had a chance to exist and grief can change shape as we get older. What hurts at seven isn't always what hurts at fifteen or sixteen. The fact that these feelings are surfacing now doesn't mean you're moving backward. It means you're growing and understanding your life in a deeper way than you could as a child. For what it's worth, I don't think you're as alone as you feel right now. I think you've spent so many years being the "mature one" that you've had to carry a lot of these emotions by yourself. You learned not to burden your mom. You learned to be strong. You learned to act like you were okay. But being strong for a long time can make a person feel invisible. You deserve space to say "Actually, this hurts." "Actually, I feel lonely." "Actually, I wish I had people I felt connected to." Those are not weak thoughts. They're honest ones And one more thing: your worth is not measured by the size of your pod Some people are born into huge, loving families and still feel unseen. Some people start with almost nobody and slowly build a family of their own through friendships, mentors, partners, and people who genuinely care about them The family that matters most isn't always the one you're born into. Sometimes it's the one you find along the way Right now, it sounds like you're grieving a lack of belonging. But the fact that you can describe these feelings so thoughtfully tells me something important: you have a deep capacity for connection. People who long for meaningful relationships often become the very people who create them later in life You are not broken. You are not too much. And you are not strange for feeling this way. You're a person who has carried a lot of loneliness for a long time, and you're finally putting it into words. That's a brave thing to do. ❤️
