I feel I'm not doing the right things
I do cheer, it's the only sport I play. I currently am working on my back bend, I personally would rather sit in my room and animate, which is gonna be my future career. I finally do a back bend, me, being the person I am, I ask my mom if she'd seen it, she said, and I quote, "yes I saw..... but, you should've been way farther ahead. You used to be a gymness." Instead of being proud of me. She puts me down. Just be proud of me for something! Please mom.
@AngelisnotAOk I'm so sorry sweetie 😥 out of anyone's approval we always seek our parents love/approval. But it's not that your doing anything wrong, cheerleader is a great sport, and doing anime, is awsome too. Especially if that's gonna be your future ❤❤ I understand you want to make your mum proud, but with all those things your already doing, if she's not proud now, then I'm not sure she ever will be😥 as sad as it is. So when you do things, be proud of yourself, and share your achievements with us, I'm proud of you, and you will make many others here proud too. Believe in yourself, cause your what matters the most
I am not a therapist or anything. I am just a father of two. Both freshmen. One high school the other college. As a parent, sometimes we say things that are meant to be encouraging or what we think is helpful. It doesn’t always come out that way. I know I am the world’s worst at that type of positive feedback. I am an electrical engineer of 23 years so I am used to analyzing things and giving feedback to fix or improve things. As far as the you should be better because of gymnastics, maybe she doesn’t understand. Even to me cheering and gymnastics look similar.
Sorry about the novel. I am not trying to defend your mom, I do not know her, but I know I have struggled with words with my boys. I try to help, but I usually end up getting in trouble with my wife for saying something that comes out as criticism (which I guess some of it is) or negative.
Long story, short, I have ALWAYS been proud of my kids. I just have a bad way of expressing it. If your mom is generally a good mom, maybe she is like me. Can you talk about this with your dad or someone? Maybe if you explain it to someone maybe they can get through to your mom about being more supportive or watching her words better. Just a thought.
