I feel bad
Hello I am new to this but, I started therapy for the first time back in October of 2024 and I also started seeing a psychiatrist and taking mood stabilizers also. I’m scared to tell my therapist that ive stopped taking my meds and haven’t seen my psychiatrist since November and that ive been struggling with extreme depression episodes and addiction. I don’t know how to be fully honest with her im scared that she would be disappointed that I lied to her or stop my treatment in general. I am also scared that my psychiatrist won’t want to see me anymore either. If anyone has any advice on how to open up more or just advice in general I would love to hear it.
I can completely see How you would Feel Reluctant. I had the same thoughts, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I had one doctor for a few years that was Great, And I Always asked how long it would take To reach Steady state (The fullest depression alleviation possible). And upfront, I would always say, There are people that count on me to do my best, Even though I know depression is really Limiting what I can do, But I can’t go backwards on them And get worse Just for sake of sticking with something. I would always try it as prescribed For the first time when I had at least a weekend and maybe more Where I really didn’t have much in the way of Things that I needed to do for other people, And then I just let the effects set in, I always seemed to notice some change after two or three days. And sometimes it only took two or three days before I knew this absolutely was not Built for me. It was frustrating and I must’ve tried four or five Before The very best outcome, And that was that I felt natural… No unnatural boost, Just an alleviation of the downward pressure. Then my doctor got a job in a different state and I found a new doctor, She was also very good about Understanding that I’m not going to stick with something That makes my life worse and makes things worse for people Who love me. Ideally, you want a physician who will read your email update Twice per week the first week, And maybe once every two or three weeks after that, where you just explain the positives and negatives. It’s rare that a doctor will do email, So if you can’t find one then Please go to a Doctor Who agrees that they will See you For a follow up Not later than two or three weeks after they prescribe you anything new. I really feel for you that You are going months Without an update, Because I think that Just about everybody has to try Several different and a depressants before you find the one that is just right for you. There’s no way for doctors to measure your brain chemicals, exactly, So that’s why there is Trial and error And retrying, So they expect that! Please don’t worry about that!
I’m praying for you…
There’s a better life if you keep trying! 🤜 🤛
