This is why it doesn't work

This is the reason that the paths are hard to get anything out of.  #1 is straight forward. #2 what is agency and what am i to do for motivation, if i am not already motivated what makes you think i know how to do that. #3 Create pathways to achieve your goals, what the F is a pathway an how do i create it and what are the character strengths. This can't work unless i understand all the steps. How about using plane English and not terminology.

  1. Identify a short or long term goal that you would like to achieve.
  2. Add in agency and motivation to achieve the goal you chose by thinking and writing about how the strengths within you allow you to have the capacity to pursue the goal. Consider writing affirmations and using "I" statements.
  3. Create pathways for achieving your goal while also brainstorming any challenges that you may have to overcome. Write down multiple pathways you can take and ensure these pathways use your character strengths.

@Gettingbettertoday Yeah the text is not great. Let me take a stab at interpreting it.

2. Add in agency and motivation to achieve the goal you chose by thinking and writing about how the strengths within you allow you to have the capacity to pursue the goal. Consider writing affirmations and using "I" statements.

Agency is your ability to do something. So writing about your strengths might convince you that you do indeed have the ability to reach your goal. If you believe you have agency it might motivate you to act.

A personal note - affirmations are bs if you don’t really believe them. I can affirm that people find me irresistible or that I am going to be rich. I can do that all day every day and it ain’t gonna happen.  Some sources seem to imply that you can force yourself to believe grand things and then they will magically materialize. I spent many depressed years trying to figure out why couldn’t believe enough to manifest my goals.

3. Create pathways for achieving your goal while also brainstorming any challenges that you may have to overcome. Write down multiple pathways you can take and ensure these pathways use your character strengths.

I think a pathway is just a set of actions that might lead you to your goals. So maybe my goal is to get to work on time. A pathway might be to wake up earlier. But I might not have a character strength of waking up early, so maybe another pathway is preparing things the night before (like making my lunch at night instead of when I wake up).

@FlatenedByLife Props for adding the "personal note". Affirmations are one of the worst ideas to ever come out of pop psychology, which might influence the writers of the "Pathways" here in Cups-land. Whenever I see/hear someone blathering on about how repeating affirmations can change your life! 🙄 ...I am immediately reminded of Rhonda Byrne's The Secret & similar codswallop. Sure, one's own mindset certainly matters when it comes to achieving goals. But a positive attitude alone will not reverse bad fortune that originates in the real world, magically cure mental illness or otherwise break the laws of nature.
