Hi everyone, i've had depression since i was about 8, and i don't have a great relationship with my mother so it's hard because often times i feel like nobody is there for me besides my boyfriend, and even at times i feel he isn't either. I also feel a lot of my relationships are changing with my family like something is off and distant and i don't know why. I take medication for my depression but when i take it i feel like it makes stuff worse. I feel more suicidal and have real bad thoughts, and instead of cutting myself i hit my head really hard and my mom has seen me do this when i've had my outbreaks. If i don't take my medicine i get in trouble but i don't understand even thought i told my parents it makes me feel worse. I just have a lot of pain and i don't want to be like this anymore, so what do i do?

@Jeru Hi, I'm very sorry to hear that you've been dealing with depression since you were 8 years old and that your relationship with your family is complicated. I understand how painful it must be. I think it's important for you to tell your doctor that you don't find your medication effective so that they can look for something that suits you better.

I'm truly sorry to hear that you're hurting yourself. It's easier said than done, but there are other coping mechanisms to manage emotions while respecting your body. Have you tried grounding techniques?

You're young, and I know it might sound like a cliché, but I assure you that better days are ahead, and it's worth holding on and keeping hope alive. You don't deserve to suffer like this, and I hope you receive the support you deserve. Take care of yourself 💖

Have you talked to the doctor about the meds making things worse? There are lots of options that they can try. Sending peace. @Jeru

I can relate to feeling as if you have no one to understand you. I'm like that as well. If the medication is making it worse, then don't be afraid to speak up. If you don't that's not only being dishonest to everyone around you, but hurting yourself.

Though there comes a point where even when you tell your doctor that your current medications aren't working, they may not change it right away if you just started it or they may want to titrate the medication until it's either out of your system or it would make you feel better according to them.
