When families don’t allow professional help
This is actually my life, I’m severely depressed and going through other issues as well but my family frowned upon me getting therapy and said a lot o really negative stuff such as “why do u need help, you’re so young, what can possibly go wrong in your life? I have worse problems and I’m keeping everything to myself and doing just fine I don’t need help why do you?” Etc stuff……the thing they don’t get is, when parents continue prohibiting their children from getting help, those children are bound to think about suicide. Because they don’t feel safe in their own house, their own family makes them feel suffocated so they just want to escape from that place and those people.
It sounds like your family has a lot of personal mental issues and coped with them in a negative way, and in turn passed down their mental issues to you. It sounds a lot like my family.
In situations like this, remember it is not your job to fix them. They ignored their need to heal themselves and thus broke you in the process. Family is complicated and hard to navigate, yet your family is ultimately supposed to uplift you and be your support system.
In a broken family, it’s important to focus on your own personal growth before trying to be for your family what they couldn’t be for themselves. They may get upset or jealous that you’re helping yourself, but it’ll be better to grow and have them be mad instead of falling prey to suicidal thoughts. Be open with them so that they can understand. If they refuse to understand then that’s on them because you took that step to reach out and they wouldn’t put in the effort to meet you halfway.
I wish you well in your journey of healing, and I hope your family appreciates the progress you make. Just because you are young does not mean you have no feelings. You are an intelligent being capable of anything you put your mind to.
