Worsening bipolar depression.
This episode has lasted since this past May following a manic episode. I was hospitalized for depression in June and then just a couple of months later. Instead of doing a series of ECT treatments I was talked into giving ketamine therapy a try. I'm still weekly doing it and might for the rest of my life. My the depression is worsening in subtle ways that like to add up and cause big hits. It's effecting my sleep, low appetite, memory loss, worsening anxiety. The bipolar depression always tends to affect me all winter. There's always a hospitalization. I just want to avoid needing more ECT treatments. There are some stressors out of my control that don't help. And I try to keep myself distracted as much as possible. But due to another recent event that feeling of hope is disappearing. I've been putting up a good fight against it but now do feel the energy or drive to not let it swallow me. They are working on getting the ketamine treatments increased for a bit and my psychiatrist just prescribed an older antidepressant he said was good and also beneficial to anxiety. But those things take weeks to take effect.
Hi @TrueSight
I'm really sorry to hear about all the tough stuff you've been dealing with since last May. That must have been a really rough journey, especially with the manic episode and having to go to the hospital for depression. Props to you for considering other treatments like ketamine therapy, even though it seems like a big commitment. I totally get how depression can slowly get worse and affect every part of your life, like your sleep, appetite, memory, and anxiety. It sucks that there are all these external things you can't control that make it even harder to stay hopeful and motivated. But it's awesome that they're upping your ketamine treatments and your psychiatrist gave you an older antidepressant that might help with both your depression and anxiety. I know it's tough having to wait weeks for these treatments to kick in. In the meantime, I hope you can find some comfort in distractions and keep fighting against those overwhelming feelings. Just remember, you're not alone in this journey, and I'm here to listen and understand whenever you need me.
