it hurts so much to relate to this song

for the record, i am a very young classical/opera singer and i found this song by puccini (o mio babbino caro), and it felt so awful realizing that the song is basically my life rn (except for the marrying part, i’m a bit too young for that). it doesn’t help that because of my age, people think whatever i’m going through isn’t valid and this song doesn’t just remind me of relationship issues. i don’t really know how to feel about this but i know im feeling really down and negative and just wanted to get this out.

other than the depressing lyrics, it is a really great song and i would definitely recommend listening to it since the melody is so beautiful.

i would write out the lyrics but then i wont be able to post it so if you are curious about the lyrics then you should search it up. but in a nutshell, the song is about a girl begging her father to let her marry the man she loves and if she can’t be with him then she threatens to throw herself into water.

i really like this song a lot but anytime i listen to it, i start to tear up and everything just comes out and i can’t control anything because it just reminds me of what’s happening to me and it feels so awful.

would you share more? I looked up the song. It seems to be about girl who is in love. It doesn’t seem to be happy in love though.

@pinkCherry1616

the lyrics are:

Oh my dear daddy
O mio babbino caro

I like it, it's beautiful, beautiful
Mi piace, è bello, bello

I want to go to Porta Rossa
Vo' andare in Porta Rossa

To buy the ring
A comperar l'anello
Yes, yes, I want to go
Sì, sì, ci voglio andare

What if I loved her in vain
E se l'amassi indarno

I would go to the Ponte Vecchio
Andrei sul Ponte Vecchio

But to throw myself into the Arno
Ma per buttarmi in Arno
I pine and torment myself
Mi struggo e mi tormento

Oh God, I would like to die
O Dio, vorrei morir
Father, have mercy, have mercy
Babbo, pietà, pietà

Father, have mercy, have mercy
Babbo, pietà, pietà

so essentially it’s more of her begging her father to approve of her relationship and threatening him with her life if she cannot be with her lover.

@amicableSouth4974 I can imagine that those words have hidden meaning for you. I can also tell that they don’t speak to me the same way. Somehow, your words describing it help. It sounds like there is someone deeply important to you and it’s difficult for some reason. It seems to weigh on you significantly.

@amicableSouth4974 Hey 💙 I've felt like this before too, I hate it when that happens (literally as I type this I'm listening to a song that perfectly describes how I feel about the future...)

If you ever want to talk about it I'm here 💙 hurting is one thing, but hurting alone is so much worse 💙 feel free to connect with me or another listener to help you carry all this
