sadly depressed hopeless and nervous
I been so much trauma in my life its unbearable. i finally started jounrlaing to help myself . I had been relying ononline peerr sites because of how private they are compared to therapists. lately my life n feeelings keep getting me down that after my friends urgung, they urged me to see a therapist. i finally started an intake session few days ago. im seeing him once a week. he can tell how much pain im in and how i "flinch" every time he asks me questions. im scared to death of therapists. im gonna be hesitant to open up to anyone about my traumss, my feelings becuz of what happened and if its ok to keep private in therapy. therpay isnt private as they say they are . all i can at least tell u is that every day it feels like im fightijt a war all by myself, nobody comes in to save me when you have to work 100x harder and other people of similar looks to you can do it with little effort and u mentally are crying yourself to sleep at nite becuz of how alone, traumatized and different you are to everyone else. im glad i startrd therapy but still will be hesitant to tell my therapist everything that happeend to me or will have to generalize my issues to them? i dont know what to do. but my therapist im started with isnt intrusive and ill let him lead the way. i dont know if i shoukd share everything with a therapist becuz there r limits to privacy and idk if my concerns r boreerline to those limits. its just also unbearable i wish and want to tell him everything becuz it just been built up from inside of me. the traumas i been through in my life r taboo to discuss out loud and im alone. i literally come onto 7cups , crisis text line , peer collective for counseling becuz im too scared of death of therapists! any advice from anyone please? im trying to cope myself throughout the week until i see my therapist and been googling like crazy should i tell a therpaist eveyrthing in my mind or life or just generalize. help please with a sad lonely heart đ˘
@TeaGreenTea12 Hi Tea Green. To answer your last question. I tell my therapist everything. Thatâs me though. I think you get a better connection with them that way.
but how can u tell them everything if there r limits to privacy. thats what im paranoid about
@TeaGreenTea12 Hi. Best Vase said it the best. I agree with them đŻ. You got this
Think of therapy as a process rather than just one moment. What happens between you is actually very private. What kinds of privacy issues are you most worried about?
You don't have to say everything at once. Start with the smaller stuff and go from there. For me, I am very honest. Sometimes I feel really bad immediately afterwards because it is hard to be so emotional. But then I realize 24 hours later that being open has made me stronger.
Keep at it. You can do this. @TeaGreenTea12
i dont want to say anuthing weird taboo or whayever based on my past , my own thoughts or situations like the therapist goes becuz of rules "oh i got to break confidentiality etc" in case i talk about a grey area subjects becuz otherwises my sessions are all gonna be all "russian roulette" if i have to spend every session just asking hypotheticals then its make the therapist suspiciois. thats why i said its gonna sound like if i attend therapy at all im gonna have to "generalize" my issues and not specifiy any of them or it makes going to therapy "risky". so its that or ill stay "stone cold" silent and let the therapist speak the way and give only little or needed info as possible. also just know, every state or country has different or additional ways to break privacy in the laws. ive seen people discuss this on youtube where telling a therapist everything can be detrimental to yourself or others based on these laws and like if u told ur therapist ur friends gets mad and hits her kids then she gets in trouble or if u say so so is a teacher but he spanks his kids and works with kids and he loses his job as a teacher. then if i cant specify a lot at all becuz of privacy issues i may only go for few sessions in general and not talk about any of the deep root causes. thats why telling a therapist everything or anhthing at all is kinda seems "risky" to some people which why some people aboid therapy in general
Remember that here we have no idea who you are. You can be specific and no one can alert anyone. So this is a good place to really practice that honesty.
What you see on YouTube is usually a lie. You can look up specifics of what is reportable in what state at reputable sites on the internet like the American Psychological Association.
Typically the only thing that has to be reported is if you are a threat to others or to yourself. In both these cases you have to have specific, immediate plans. So if you thought about something six months ago but don't have those things in mind now you are okay. @TeaGreenTea12
i decided for my protection to cancel my apt. sorry due to my situations i legally been advised not go for my protefction. seeing therapists isnt as confidential and every therapy session will feel like russian roulette n i cant risk that every session. i have u, crisis text line and myself journaling and ive been on my own honestly ever since every trauma and im used to it. im only seeint a therapist if they r gonna be 100% private.
@TeaGreenTea12 Iâm here if you need me. Iâll do my best to help also
Ok, but feel free to be as open as you want here. We have no idea who you are and have no way of figuring that out.
You could also look at some form of online therapy here and see how much information that you have to give out to get started. @TeaGreenTea12
are you really just scared to be transparent with a therapist because you donât want them to âturn against youâ in a sense? Itâs really healthy to have that outsiders ear when youâre battling your depression. It helped me feel grounded and less âcrazyâ having someone who wasnât biased of my situation to help me work through my emotions and give me the encouragement I needed to improve. No pressure just sharing a thought! Sending you love and encouragement!
