Dissociating?

Hello everyone. I want to aproach a topic here. Is not a painfull thing to me but is...annoying to say the least!

Usually after panick attacks (mine are super strong) or when my depression goes really bad, I feel really weird. Imagine looking the world through a lent. My perspective gets completly messed up, to not mention I get this weird vibe if things are real or not, if I'm alive or not.

Now me thinking I was completly insane I always put this aside until yesterday I found a term for this, "dissociating". Is it the right term for this? Since we have to be carefull with what we read nowdays I wanted to get some opinions on this.

Also does anyone suffer from this too? If so how would you describe it?

@Booklover95 i'm sorry to know you feel this way, i feel you because i suffer from depression and anxiety too. The thing that has helped me so far is focusing on my breathing, try to live in the present moment & cling to yoga, meditation and other stuff. i'm here if you need to talk about it!

I also like meditation but I never tried it when I feel that way. Really interesting! I'll give it a go :) thank you

I'm sorry you went through this. I feel you and relate to everything you wrote. It's good you have a label for it. Try to identify it when you're experiencing it, and then focus on the colors around you, hear sounds in yor vicnity, feel the taste in your mouth. To a degree, that should help you return to the present. I have heard good things about EMDR therapy, maybe try that? Also, there might be a reason why you're dissociating, and you might eventually want to get to the root. My dissociative episodes happen because of C-ptsd flashbacks and repressed emotions around trauma like anger and sadness. You don't need to rush into anything, though. As I mentioned, its great you have labelled the problem. Work from there. Take your time and know that nothing is terrible and take care.

Hi. I don't know if I have depression or not but lately I have found myself feeling this way or similar. especially this afternoon. my mom asked me to do something and for a second I thought I was just remembering her asking me to do it or that I was watching a video.

the more I think about it this has happened a lot in my life I just never noticed it until I started learning more about mental health.

I don't know why this is happening to me but I thought I would just let you know that you aren't the only one.

I know exactly how you feel, and it's a horrible thing to experience, but you're definitely not alone with this, it's quite common along with panic attacks or traumatic experiences. I used to have that a lot, out of the blue I panicked and it felt like I fell back into childhood, the trigger could be a noise or a smell, I didn't even realize it, but suddenly I've been there again, and I couldn't tell tell what's truth and what's imagination, sometimes it lasted for days.

It's hard to live with it, but it's possible to overcome... For me the best way was to get to know myself better, know my triggers, create a safe environment and tell the people around me about it, so they know how to react. Now my bf knows how to bring me back when I'm starting to panick before I dissociate completely and get lost in my imagination... And I can feel the panic rising, so I can calm myself before it's getting worse, I'm trying to breathe deeply then and go to a safe place... When I'm outside I touch a tree or the grass, to keep myself from falling, to know that this is real and nit what's going on in my mind...

I hooe you'll find your own way to handle this. I wish you all the best :)
