Growing up I was bullied in elementary because i was always scrawny & shorter than a lot of the other kids my age. The verbal bullying was by the teachers, and the students physically bullied me everyday. I told my parents, but it was brushed off as being sensitive, and that I needed to man up. This led to me fighting and getting suspended a lot, just so i could get away from that school, and the teachers. I started smoking around 12 just to hide the pain and be happy, but that led to pills and now an addiction. Im 20 now and my bestfriend thinks i might have depression. Ive taken tests online and they all said i showed signs of severe depression. Im seriously thinking of going to the doctor for testing, but im afraid theyll just tell me nothings wrong, and i need to just get over it. Ive tried to get over it but its STILL haunting me. Please help me 😔

@Akeemj96 Sounds like you've gone through a tough time :c *hugs* I'm sorry that your parent weren't of much help. It sounds like your best friend seems to care though are they supportive? Going to the doctor is definitely an option worth considering ^-^ I'm glad you've been thinking about what's the best option for you. I hope you make the right decision for yourself and find the help you're looking for! heart I hope you start to feel better soon *hugs*

Hi there and welcome to 7cups.

I'm so sorry to hear that you went through so much throughout your life. I'm however very glad that you've considered going to the doctor for testing. It is a doctor/ psychiatrist/ psychologist's job to help diagnose people who are in emotional distress for long periods of time, which can be a strong indicator of depression or other mental illness. I highly recommend seeking professional help if you suspect you may have depression as it isn't something people can just 'get over'. Of course, you are also welcome to find support here with us at 7cups at the same time. Wishing you the best on your recovery journey!
