New here (:
Just found out about this app and I hope it proves as useful as it seems. :) I'm Charlie (Charley, Rory, call me whatever you like!), 18 years old and while I've not yet been diagnosed with anything, every test I've taken tells me I have a severe depression, and I'm pretty sure it's correct. I also suffer from hallucinations (auditory, visual, tactile), insomnia and delusions, and occasionally depersonalization, too. Again, not professionally diagnosed, I've just observed my own feelings and life and how I've felt and made lots of tests on the internet. I haven't got myself real help because I don't think I deserve it, I mean, I don't think I'm ill enough to go and see a doctor :p I've had this viewpoint for years and I still kind of do but now I have started to see that maybe I should go and get help; this is mainly because my hallucinations/voices are getting to a point where they keep me awake at night and stop me from falling asleep. Last night I slept for 3 hours and it was longest sleep I've gotten in weeks.
Anyway, just thought about introducing myself somewhat, I'm sorry if it's a wrong place or something, I'm still learning this app :D
Welcome!
I'll go ahead and give you some tips:
While you may not feel that you deserve official treatment, I highly recommend you at least mention your self-diagnosis to your doctor and get an official diagnosis, and consider some form of treatment. Leaving psychological ailments untreated can be dangerous, especially if the symptoms are gradually getting worse over time.
Another tip that I have is keeping some kind of journal of your hallucinations - record when they happen, what they are, how realistic they are, etc.
I hope that's helpful to you, and I hope you find the support you're looking for here!
@TheLPSoldier Thank you for the input, I appreciate your advice and will surely start a journal to keep track of them, that's a good idea. :)
I know I should go and get an appointment with a doctor but it feels so embarrassing because my doctor is also my godmother and I don't want anyone that close to me to know about my troubles. :/ I'm afraid she'll tell my parents and I don't want my mom having to worry about me too because she's battling with depression on her own. It feels easier to talk to strangers for some reason...
@charleyy That's understandable
I myself have only confided in strangers online and my two closest friends, so I can understand that. Part of healing is learning to confront your fear of speaking the truth.
