4 months and 2 days (Alcohol Awareness Week)

I cannot tell you the amount of times I've rewritten this post. I was going to share it two days ago, but mentally I wasn't in the right frame of mind. So I'm sharing it now!

Not a lot of you will know, but I used to be a binge drinker. I wouldn't drink often, but when I did, I wouldn't stop. People around me used to tell me that it changed me as a person, but as long as I felt better in myself - I didn't care. I was an incredibly selfish person, and didn't think about how it would affect those around me. My family, my loved ones, and even my health.

3 years ago, I suffered from alcohol-induced hepatitis. But even that wasn't enough to stop me from binging. Not even the cries from my precious mother stopped the random drinking binges. Something had to give.

4 months and 3 days ago, I went out - without the intention of drinking. I went to meet some friends. One drink slowly turned into 4. I felt dissociated and scared. I wouldn't let anyone go near me. I was a completely different person. I would spout nonsense and my BPD skyrocketed. I was extremely unpleasant. I decided that enough was enough. The next morning I spoke to my other half, in tears. I hated myself. This followed with an emotional phonecall to my mother, admitting to her that I had a problem with binging, and that I needed to sort myself out.

Since then, I haven't looked back.

My mood is more stable. I'm the lovable person I used to be before I even knew of drink. I'm happier in myself, and I generally have more of a zest for life.

The moral of the story is, if you're in trouble, or struggling - please reach out. It doesn't matter who to. It can still change your life 🙏🏻❤️
