Advice for parenting with depression.....
Not only do I have depression but anxiety and pure O, OCD as well. I have finally hit a place where I am exhausted all of the time and it takes so much energy just to get through a work week and maintain a household that the guilt of failing as a parent is enough to make me cry at any given moment yet I cannot shake this depression:( Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated
You are an
You are an inspiration. Parenting is hard in itself (I have 3 kids - triplets) and especially when you're coping with mental health issues. Do you have anyone that could help you through this down time? Spending time with you & helping you parent..? If not try talking to your kids (If they're old enough) about what they would like to do, you could even make a "happy box"!
Get the kids to colour and draw on a cardboard box, stick pretty things on to the outside and then fill it with 5 of your favourite things. One of my angels put in some fruit, a birthday card and drew a picture of me. It really helps to get the kids engaged in a healthy way with how to cope with their emotions as well as empathise with others.
What is a happy box?
I wish I did have someone to help me through this but unfortunatly I am pretty alone with my mental illness. My family doesn't "believe" in it and my friends, dont know about it. Doesn't help that my son(who is 8) father doesn't play any role in his life so the weight of parenting is on me. I do the mindfullness meditations every day and when the motivation is there, I go for a run but for whatever reason, this bout has been hanging on for a lot longer than usual.
