Advice on having no friends/losing friends?

How do people cope with having no friends? Before I had depression, I had a decent social life, a lot of friends who I could confide in and have intimate conversations with, and I was able to chat/joke around with aquaintances, go to parties, make new friends, etc.

However, I have now lost all my friends, I feel quite isolated and alone. My depression makes me feel unworthy of friendship and worthless, and my anxiety stops me leaving the house very often or being in busy places/social situations.

Has anyne else found themselves pushing people away and isolating themselves until they have noone, as well as having friends who distanced themsleves from you after discovering your depression (they found it too awkward/weird)? How do you cope with feeling alone and like noone cares? Has anyone been through this and was then able to make friends again at some point? I feel like I have almost accepted that I am not 'normal' or 'well' enough to have close relationships anymore. Some days I just want to explode with all the emotions and thoughts I wish I could share, but I don't have anyone I feel close enough to to be myself. I miss being able to have fun wih other people.

There are times when I have felt a similar way. It took a lot of time but I eventually found people who were open minded and caring towards those with mental illnesses and have become close friends with them. They are few and far between but I personally prefer a few close connections than loads of 'friends' who I feel uncomfortable opening up to. I'd say it's certainly possible, but patience and effort is necessary.
