Advice or help

I've been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression for at least 7 years now. I've had countless counselling from different people and none of it has worked they pass me on to others, and they all have said they same stuff and when I tell them that it's not working they get frustrated and tell them I'm better off taking medication. I hate medication I've overdosed on it before because it's never gave me any benefits. I feel I am stuck with no answers or help/support.

I have no friends and I am not close with my family. My mum is extremely horrible to me. Doing things to push me and make me tick. She is doing it more and more recently and when I stand up for myself she flips out and tells me she doesn't want me here.

I don't want to be in this house any more. But with my depression and anxiety I find it hard to even leave this house.

I am stuck. I have nowhere to turn. I keep researching to find some advice or support, but I can't find anything. My family make my mental health worse. But I am scared as I am so unsure on what is going to happen next.

Please help if you can.

Thankyou so so much x

@dvskmaiden

I'm sorry to hear you've been struggling with treatment. A good therapist should consider a variety of treatment options, and work with you to find the strategies that are most helpful for you. A good therapist should also be more patient; depression can't be resolved as quickly as a bacterial infection. It takes weeks or months before some patients start to improve. This is true whether or not medication is involved.

It is also concerning how your mother treats you. If you are a minor or vulnerable adult, you may be able to access legal or medical resources based on your situation, but this all depends on what exactly is occuring and how far you might be comfortable with bringing in third parties to your situation. I would also like to remind you that we cannot control the behavior of others, and it is on her if she wants to be better. She is not your responsibility to "fix" or "manage".

It's not fair that you have to go through these things. It seems like one helpful strategy would be to focus on finding a more helpful, compassionate therapist. Juding by your use of the term "mum", here is a link to the NHS England therapist finder: https://beta.nhs.uk/find-a-psychological-therapies-service/ (I think there are comparable tools for other parts of the UK, but I am from a different nation and am not sure.)

If you look up specific providers in your area, they may have profiles for their providers with information about the patients they specialize in or the therapies they provide. I've had some success with reading through doctors' profiles and making a shortlist of people I think would work well with me.

Good luck
