Alone & Scared
Hi. So... this site has gotten an update since I've last been here. It looks really nice. Anyways.... I guess I'm posting here because I feel so alone and scared over so many things.
I'm stuck with my family for Thanksgiving, which isn't something I want. I feel like I've been abandoned by my so called "friends" and I just have this belief that I don't actually have any, & It's so weird because my brain will counteract that any time I think it but like, the depressing emotion stays. I just miss so many people who have been in my life.
I also get really sad when I think about my romantic life. I'm 20 years old, I've never had a boyfriend (part of that is because I like boys and grew up in a conservative suburban area before moving to NYC, and now I live in Orange County) and I just am so sad and depressed all the time.
ALSO: Is anyone else terrified of the future? & Terrified of surviving? because I am, and it sucks being so scared all the time in addition to everything else.
I think we all are in different ways even me
When I'm feeling like this, I know that it's not doing any good for my mind. So I just try to remind myself to take it one day at a time. As stressful as school and the future is I just try to take it slow. One day at a time and focus on the important things. Spend time doing little things to calm down like video games or just laying in bed with tea.
-idk if that helps i can get pretty depressed at times but I know that tomorrow is a new day. Sorry if that didn't help. Just some things that help me.
Hi,
"" I just have this belief that I don't actually have any, & It's so weird because my brain will counteract that any time I think it but like, the depressing emotion stays. I just miss so many people who have been in my life.....I also get really sad when I think about my romantic life ""
Our subconscious minds will always want to see us moving in the direction that can help us solve our major unsolved problems. That's why the woman who dislikes the fact that she is single won't feel good if she stayed at home. And us, who dislike being unexperienced, won't feel good about avoiding new experiences. Our minds are yearning for growth and it takes actual concrete steps. Steps which only you can determine
Heartbreaks and rejection are inevitable risks. And we need to learn to accept that and understand the role of pain in tailoring our strengths and progress. We have to teach ourselves to take that pain and mold it into something positive.
Unless irrational fear is causing real immediate harm to us, our best bet is addressing it gradually. Start by examining in more details how your past experiences nourished the avoidance mode, not your lack of experience no, but how experiences of abandonment or loss made you more hesitant to trust the current human connections. You can do this through mindfulness and meditation. We are often on an autopilot mode, Once we start to pick apart the illogical basis for our emotions we can free ourselves from being dominated by the maladaptive emotions..
Albert Ellis talked extensively about this process "cognitive reappraisal". . He argued that through musturbation we permit our feelings to be dominated by the musts:
I must succeed I must be loved I must have what I want. And he talked about the A-B-C frame of emotion and how it can be reversed:
A: Activating event (a friend turns you down for dinner) +B: Belief (no one likes me) =C: Consequence (sad mood, feelings of rejection)
To change the consequence ( the emotion), we need to change our beliefs. To change our beliefs we need to analyze them. In this example, I can alter the belief that no one likes me by looking at the evidence for this belief. Why do I think that no one likes me? Does one persons turning me down mean that no one likes me? Does this mean that no one will ever like me? Does it mean that I must have everyone like me? (That last one is musturbation.) And if I am still left with the feeling of isolation or being unloved, I try to control the extent of its impact on my actual behavior and on others. Emotions flow, they eventually fade away and get replaced by different ones.
I wish you peace and happiness
I'm sorry for your pain. Feeling abandoned is terrible. Like the oxygen being suckered out. I wish u a peaceful future. Full of solid friendships and unconditional love.
You sound like you have a good deal of anxiety. Did something happen recently? I also think the holidays can be tough for people prone to depression. I know I have been going up and down all week.
