Ant-depressants advice and personal experiences.

Hi everyone, I've been prescribed ant-depressants medal over a month ago now. I sadly haven't been taking them because my anxieties don't want me to.

The only problem is I'm really nervous of the side effects they can have. I've saw people in hospital and had really bad things happen to them. I was wondering if people could share their experiences to soothe my anxiety. I really do need these pills and overthinking is making me feel worse.

@DepressedAngel8321 Hi! And hello to everyone who might like to participate in this thread....
It is highly encouraged here on Cups to discuss your experience with therapy and medications. However, please be careful not to share specific names of medications and doses, as that is not allowed under 7 Cups guidelines.
This is a really important set of questions to ask, however, and I hope a lot of peoples' experiences come together to help us all understand more about medication and our anxieties about taking them.
Cheers!

@DepressedAngel8321 Oh! It's fine as it is. Was just giving everyone a heads up so no one has to worry about having one of their posts edited. No worries!

Every single drug out there, psychotropic or otherwise comes with a laundry list of potential side effects from common to rare. Each person responds to drugs differently, based on age, brain chemistry, compliance.......You can pick any psychotropic pill you want and then ask 20 people about their experience with it - some will say they got jittery, others will say they kept falling asleep, others will say it stopped their periods, or they lost touch with their emotions, or were raging like mad.

All one can do is try something and monitor you own side effects ( if any ) and weigh them against the benefits you've seen and make up your own mind, whether to stay on it or move on to something else.

I have been on 40 psychotropic meds in the last 25 years.

@DepressedAngel8321 I along with many others here at 7Cups have tried a variety of medications. Some of them had bad side-effects, so not-so-bad side-effects. Some of them worked, some of them did not work. Like all things in life, what works for one person doesn't work for another. My only suggestion is to do your research on any drug that you are prescribed. If you have questions about it or any questionable side-effects, talk to your doctor before taking it.

@DepressedAngel8321 I had been talking meds for some years, I dont personally like meds, they turned me into a veggie, they brought me all sorts of breathing problems, once when I was in a mental hospital with high dosis of them I seriously thought I was going to die.. because the meds have really bad effects on the body, the doctors tell you is in your head everything but seriously it has very nasty side effects. My ex girlfirned literally almost died from anti depressants. she got some allergic reaction and her throat closed so much that she could barely breath.

If you are just starting on meds.. you might think it tiwce.

@DepressedAngel8321

Take your [edited by forum mod ladylazarus1971 for language] meds! It makes no sense to don't take medicine when you are sick.

If you get a nasty infection, you take some antibiotics. All medicines have some unwanted effects.
