Have you ever struggled in weaning off antidepressants?

Hi, I'm 26 and been on Pristiq for about 5 years for anxiety and depression. 50mg. Long story short, Ive had separation anxiety starting at age 5. Didnt know anxiety and depression were a thing until college (oops). I got on Pristiq back when because of my dad's Complex PTSD that became explosive and unbearable, and was going through an abusive friendship in college at the same time.

I've been in therapy for years since and making big strides in my own mental health and recovery to where now the antidepressants are doing more harm than good (insomnia, decreased appetite, constant fatigue, 0 energy & motivation, memory problems, price, etc.) But coming off them is difficult. It's like all the emotions that were "blocked off" by Pristiq are having a hard time co-mingling again. Can cry at the drop of a hat, agitated, abrasive, and not to mention dizzy at times. (sometimes it reminds me of how my dad acts which can also be very stressful) Off of Pristiq, I've been sleeping soundly, eating like a horse, waking up at more normal times, more energy, etc. All in all the pros outweigh the cons by a lot, but the aftershocks of it all can be grueling. Insurance and doctors visits are dicey at the moment so I've done a tablet every other day for about 1-2 weeks since its low dosage.

Has anyone gone through the ringer weaning off antidepressants? (any type, doesnt have to be Pristiq) Do you have any insights or strategies on how you coped through the aftershocks?

Thanks for reading!

I've gone through hell coming off 2 drugs, one gave me waking hallucinations. Only thing I can suggest is reduce dose slowly...slower than that......

I think the effects of anti depressants must be discussed with a specialist. You may find the actual cause of problem. And if you want to go off meds that must also be done under expert supervision.
