Anxious about it all
Hey everyone,
Over the last few days I’ve been having talks with my aunts about moving and Section 8. Today’s talk was worse because my other aunt was questioning why I didn’t have a social worker due to my disability; whether I’m temporarily disabled or not, how have I not tried to get Section 8 in all these years, and so on?
I tried to explain to her that Section 8 hadn’t been a part of the plan. That I was supposed to finish school and get what’s now feeling like a useless degree since I can’t do anything with it right now, and then use my Ticket to Work so I can rejoin the workforce. But no, now I feel like an idiot after explaining all of it to her and she still didn’t get it.
No progress was made, and she only began stressing how I can live closer to her and how she and her daughters can drive me to and from places.
Relatives can be a pain in the a$s. I & no doubt quite a few others on 7Cups can attest to that.
Remember: If your aunts (or anyone) are not in a position to influence or decide whether you'll get what you want--in this case, qualifying for Section 8 housing--then it doesn't matter if they don't understand. What is important is that you have your plan in mind, & that the people necessary for that plan are doing what they're supposed to. Anyone else, you don't need to worry about.
Again, sorry that I missed this. I don't pick up on these threads until someone else responds first.
It can be really frustrating when people miss those messages. They aren't always listening because they can't get over what they are imagining in their own heads.
What are you thinking about Section 8 now and what would that look like in terms of relocating?@integrityblues
I don’t know. I qualify but it can take a long time to be selected. I’m having a hard enough time dealing with the fact that she anonymously asked a *** group for help finding a place, too.
I can choose where I want to go and apply for Section 8 there and wait for my turn. I keep having to remind myself that I might still be able to stay where I am for a little while, that I’ll have some form of warning before it becomes too expensive for me.
I’m just rattled, I guess.
Well you definitely deserve as much control over the process as you can get. Hopefully you can take it a step at a time.
It can be hard when others attempt to "help". I just try to remind myself that they can't completely understand and that they are doing it from a place of kindness. Hopefully next time she will listen more and ask more. @integrityblues
