In this post, I'd like to share with you my depression experience and my personal coping methods.

My Depression Experience

I was diagnosed with depression disorder last year in August (That's why I stopped taking member chats during this time.). When I was a secondary 4 student, I was so easy to feel depressed and down for no reason, and I even cried in school washroom, so lots of teachers knew I was an emotional unstable student. Teachers usually said 'Are you okay? Do you want to leave the washroom and talk with me?' during this time, yet I usually didn't care them because I was not willing to talk with them at that moment. Also, I could be fine to talk with my friends with my smile, but I felt so bad suddenly.

As a listener at 7 Cups, I was aware what depression looks like. Fortunately, having the campaign for against the extradition law in Hong Kong, some foundations appeared, and I had an opportunity to seek a psychiatrist free of charge through the 612 foundation. After seeing the psychiatrist, she diagnosed me with depression disorder, and I had to take antidepressant.

About taking antidepressant, it would be a long story for me. The first type of Serotonin, a common antidepressant, that she gave me to take had lots of side effects such as tremor and dry mouth. It was so hard for me to cope with the side effects, so I had to call the clinic. After nurse asking to the psychiatrist, I was allowed to stop taking this medicine and saw her faster. After that, she gave me another antidepressant, but this antidepressant made me feel tired and hard to focus on my studying. Therefore, she changed another antidepressant, Serotonin for me. The terrible things happened after taking this medicine.

After taking this medicine around 2 weeks, I didn't know why felt absolutely down and I even had suicidal thoughts. I knew an organization, which was called dream hospital, which helped people about the campaign. I was successful to connect with their psychologist, and I told him about my thoughts and my plan that I had, and he saw me at that night. he went to my school to save me the day after that night. I felt a part of having this relapse was because of always forgetting to take medicine.

I told to my psychiatrist about my situations, and she changed my antidepressant. this medicine could made me feel better, and I remembered to take medicine each day. I take this medicine until now. Recently, she even allowed me to reduce my medicine that I had to take. Now, I feel better and I can be successful to finish my studying and have a job and even take member chats again.

My Coping Methods About Depression

1. Seek help is completely okay- I know some people may think others will label them such as having mental illness and leave them. If your situations are getting worse, it will affect your life, and you can't even control anything like my situations. are they still able to keep their friendship or anything?

2. Remember to take medicine- If you always forget to take medicine about mental illness, it will affect the balance in your brain, so your emotions will be easy to be unstable
