Battling depression at work
Hey I’m new here but I really need some help and suggestions on how to cope with my depression when it comes to having to go to work. This weekend has been rough for me and my fiancé because of my depression and I woke up this morning late for work and cried because I couldn’t find my jeans for work. He found them for me and helped me get ready and I was still stressed and crying about the situation. I ended up calling my boss and made up an excuse as to why I couldn’t go to work today. I know this isn’t healthy and I need to find a better solution to not feeling motivated to work. I’m open to any advice or suggestions.
Instead of thinking you are going for work , change your mindset for a day .THink of attending a classroom which you will bunk in mid day .
Get up but late , do all that you love .When its afternoon go for some walk near your office vicinity and by late afternoon pretend you are unwell and leave .
Do this couple of times .
This was you will get into the mode of going to office .
- In three months time when you get in the mode .Try to stay longer .If there are recreation room , pick up a hobby and play there .Stay away from your existing team and interact to the point with them.Try to connect with people not from your team
@AV52722 hey, I hope you don't mind me sharing this post which has helped me in the past. Its a bit of a tough love approach, but it has some great tips in there: https://captainawkward.com/2013/02/16/450-how-to-tighten-up-your-game-at-work-when-youre-depressed/
If things are starting to fall apart and it becomes really hard to get to work or function while at work, then I wouldn't advise pushing through as that will make you worse. This site might help you decide whether its a good idea to disclose your condition to your employer, particularly if you need to take time off work or will need to discuss changes to your duties at work: https://www.headsup.org.au/your-mental-health/talking-about-a-mental-health-condition-at-work/disclosure-tool
I've been where you are, struggling to get to work and relying on my other half to calm me down, help me find my keys/phone/shoes, and help me write emails to my managers about why I can't come in...but it won't be like this forever. Take care!
