Being Grateful for Depression

Now this may come across as ridiculous (and sorry if it's offensive) but I've learned how to be grateful for my depression and I think that is an important step in recovery. Yes, it put me through so much pain, isolated me, changed my entire life, wore me down and shattered me to pieces, but it meant I had the opportunity to rebuild myself in whichever way I liked, and it helped shape who I am today. It allowed me to appreciate the good moments more, it has allowed me to connect with and empathise with others, and help them through tough times. It's made me more self-aware and understanding of others, it's made me more considerate of other people's feelings and it's just all round made me a better person. Yes, it was/is horrible illness and I know I will probably never fully get rid of it, but I'm grateful for the good things it's brought me.

Is anyone else grateful for theirs? What good did it bring you?
