Being "successful"

So, lately I think more an more about this, I mean, if you just take a quick glance at me and my life, I may even be considered succesful. I have a job, a college degree, my own flat (although I am living at the family home right now for a bit because of some family business) and I even kind of keep it together, and still here I am...
I mean, what this first glance cannot show is that how hard I have been working on that college degree, how I was almost dropped out of university and I even had to change schools once, so I could continue, while really fighting with the general lack of motivation with every single kind of method I could found, and even failing like that as well.
How I struggled to get out there and start to look for a job, and keep it going after some time (not too much) of not succeeding and how I still have sometimes hard time getting out of bed in the morning, eventhough I do actually like my job and the office I do work at.
How much I am backed up sometimes with just chores at my own flat (or in the family house right now), just because I just feel like "I just cannot".
But, at the end of the day, my life is kind of together, even if I need pretty hard work for it to keep it going, and I sometimes look around, and I see a lot of people having some or a lot of things totally messed up, while I have my life together....and I just feel bad for feeling like this... Like, I mean, I do not know what to do with this, but I sometimes can't help but feel like maybe there is really a problem with me, like I should somehow be grateful - which I actually am - and I am doing something wrong maybe...
I just feel bad for being the way I am sometimes - more often than not lately...

I mean, I know this may be stupid, and I don't know if this really makes sense - I hope it does - but I know I wanted to say/write this out, and this way maybe someone will even read it..
...or not, I guess even just writing it out can be useful on it's own, although I am a bit tired at this point at just "shouting out things into the void" - or at least that's how it just feels sometimes.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your story! We all have our reasons for feeling down, and sometimes we don't have a reason at all. It's kind of in the nature of emotions and depression that we may not have a reason to feel sad but still do.

Depression (or emotional distress in general) presents differently in different people, so not everyone who is having a really rough life has depression, and people can have depression while leading relatively functional and seemingly normal lives.

While I agree that practicing gratitude and mindfulness can remind us to be grateful and happy for what we have, it isn't always enough to keep negative feelings away. I hope you'll find the resources on 7cups useful, be it the forums, group chat, 1-to-1 listener chats or self help guides. Take care!
