Breathing technique

September 5th, 2017

Hold your breath!

Ok, let it out now. We're not recommending that you turn blue, but yoga breathing has been shown to be effective in lowering stress and anxiety. In his bestselling 2011 book Spontaneous Happiness, Dr. Andrew Weil introduced a classic yoga breathing technique he calls the 4-7-8 breath.

One reason it works is that you can't breathe deeply and be anxious at the same time. To do the 4-7-8 breath, exhale completely through your mouth, then inhale through your nose for a count of four. Hold your breath for a count of seven. Now let it out slowly through your mouth for a count of eight. Repeat at least twice a day.

@dreamSmiles34

I just tried this.. I can defintely say it does release stress and just make you calm. Its so strange how normal stuff like breathing that we do daily can relax you. I do already take alot of deep breaths but I guess i know the explnataion behind that now. But yes, I'll be trying this out more so thank you so much for sharing this.

I think this is a great technique! I use it myself and I find it very helpful in getting myself into a mindset where I can deal with my problems that were causing me to panic a while before. Thank you for posting it!
