Depression and Obesity/Body Image Issues
What came first- the chicken or the egg?
What came first- being obese or being depressed?
I'm fat. I'm healthy ( physically) but I'm fat and I hate it. I've tried so many things with no success that I'm close to just saying 'eff it'...but there's part of me that just won't quit.
Anyone else feel this way? Anyone else feel that their depression and their body image issues feed off of one another?
Anyone found any solution? Any bit of success?
@guineagirl
What do you define as fat? Is it numbers? or maybe rolls? Maybe your definition is messed up and unrealistic. If a doctor says you have a healthy weight technically you can't be fat.
@Booklover95 I am 5'7 and weigh 210. My thighs rub when I walk, I have a double chin and clothes that don't fit any longer. I am factually fat
My doctor also agreed that I'm overweight but I don't have any physical issues like high blood pressure or cholesterol issues
@guineagirl
Ok that helps a bit more to understand. If you want to lose weight you can, thing is right now mentally is impossible. Your mind influenciates ALOT the process of losing weight. I once was really overweight and I only did healthy changes when I started to work on my depression and my self esteem.
You see if you don't work these things when you lose the weight it will feel... the same. You'll be like "wait but I thought this was it! I would feel really good about myself and my life would be better!"
Is all about your mind. I promise you that if you work on it you'll have strenght and actually get through losing the weight in a very healthy way.
Also some tips here: be active. When losing weight you need to be active and I'm not talking about unrealistic stuff like a gymn. Go on walks! Get some music and observe the views. Is very calming and you're moving. Also do chores around the house it still makes you move.
Food: eat every 3 hours in small portions. The key is to NOT be hungry. If you are you'll go into starvation mode and you'll get twice as much weight. Your stomach is a muscle and needs to work and for that needs food. Try to also have a variety of foods, from cereals to many veggies, fruits, maybe even smoothies, drink ALOT of water (also natural juice is good, without sugar. Tea aswell if you like it). Every weak also do the "cheating" rule which is basically you choosing one day of the week where you eat anything sugary or more fat , but the rest of the week you behave very well and eat healthy.
I can go more into detail later on if you want but for now think about what I wrote and see if it goes towards what you want and need.
@guineagirl yes I totally agree it's a vicious cycle. One day feeling great about yourself and the next getting down because you don't look/feel good. I'm working on it myself through things like eating better (which helped a ton) and at least a little exercise even if it's only some yoga for my back due to a desk job. I try not to get too down on myself which doesn't always work and sometimes your mind will win but you have to remind yourself that you are amazing and love yourself even if there are things you are working to change
@ninetaleslove This is the hardest for me. I enjoy working out, but then I get a bad case of the 'eff it's' , where I'm like " I'm never gonna lose weight, why am I even bothering with this?" or I lose my motivation to do anything, where showering and brushing my teeth is considered a success. I can do well, but then when I'm depressed, I fall off the rails. Self love is very difficult for me.
@guineagirl trust me I understand completely. I'm still partially in the mindset by I'm trying to change it. I would say screw it I'm tired today and not workout for a couple weeks. When I did workout I never felt or saw the changes. I'm still trying to lose weight but lost 40+ in almost a year from being 220+ and having a health issue turned it around for me. I still feel like I can't see the changes and feel like the same 220+ girl but my co-workers have noticed the difference. I'm working on changing my mind and you should too . Remind yourself that flaws and all you are worth it as a person.
