Depression and cheating

May 19th, 2014

First off thanks for reading my post...

The reason for my post today, is that i feel i have no one to talk about my issues i have with depression and how every time i have a bout of it I have overwhelming feelings to see if i can have attention from other men, even if by no means I intend anything of a sexual nature from them.

Let me put some background into this though... In my past before my husband I have cheated on my bfsin times that i feel low. In these times i usually drink either socially or on my own, and then usually forget about my significant other. Immediately i regret it every time, beat myself up inside and then continue on. But when my depression comes back i relive these moments and it pains me over again. Despite the fact i know i feel guilt, i always tend to repeat the process when i'm least expecting it and when i'min a committed relationship.

So in regards to my present, my husband and I are have the time having to do a long distancerelationship due to our professional lives... either I am away for work or he is. Initially I never really thought about other men in our first year of marriage, but now after two years, when i'm alone and far away from him I miss him and his affections that when i'm drunk i respond to other mens affections for me. I also by no means consume a moderate amt of alcohol at some functions, which i know is the number one mistake. I feel like my lack of control is related to my tendancy for depression ( while my mother has severe depression) but due to my career if i was diagnosed I would lose my job.

With all this said and done i have a hugeamt of guilt inside for my thoughts about other men, and i did kiss a man the last time we were out partying. I have no interest in this guy when i'm sober, but he made advances and i couldnt resist the attention.

I love my husband very much! by no means are we perfect but i cant bare to tell him that i did this, since this is my second offence. I'm starting to realize now that my actions of cheating are all related to drinking and my drinking is caused by my depression. Should i tell him or just seek help?

Does anyone have a similar problem and know of ways on my own i can combat the depression and thus drinking?

Thanks for listening

Dear Doglover,

I'm glad you took the time to put all the things you're experiencing into words. It usually helps, just trusting it down to paper. It seems you are experiencing a mixture of emotions which are difficult to place, or put in perspective if you will.

I'd be more than willing to listen to your story and try if we can find the common ground of all the things you are currently struggling with. And I'm positive all the other listeners would be willing to help you as well.. Just browse, read some profiles of us all, and connect to someone you feel good with.

We are here for you! Wishing you all the best.
