Depression attack
Haven't had an attack for s few months now. But finally it caughtme yesterday. I think family fuedsand a disgreemntin a realtionshiptriggered it. I don't have the energy to work or study for 2 days now. I cut myself and took more pills I should have. I feel so low, sad, discouraged. No one here really understand how depression is like for people like us.
Hello dear @roxiefied
I've always found that speaking with someone who understands and has been through the same struggles is usually best. Depression hotlines and Support group settings are always a good option. Try reaching out to your community center to see if they have, or can direct you to, any alternate forms of support.
Motivation comes from hope. By creating new reasons to be hopeful you will find new motivation to push on. For example in my situation I am unhappy with my living situation and lack of employment. My first thought was get a job so I could move out, right? Nope, I went and got a job and still it was not enough to afford a place on my own which brought me way down. So I decided to quit and go back to school which starts in two weeks. Yes I will be stuck here for another four months but I know I will have something to hope for and that gives me all the strength I need to get through this. You have to have HOPE. If you don't have it then get out there and find some!
For me, I always make new things for myself, since I start to lose my focus and energy for things. That's what always makes me look forward to things.
I know it's not easy and that you probably think that nothing would help you more than self harming in these situations but this is absolutely not true! you have the power to choose how to react to a stressful situation. For example, if you punch walls, try punch a pillow - it will still enable you to relieve the stress, without causing damage to your body. Also when things are becoming stressful, there are many mindfulness techniques you can try. Take yourself away for half an hour, listen to some relaxation videos, do some breathing exercises and completely remove yourself from the situation for that time. Sometimes taking a break from a stressful situation may help you to clarify things a bit more, so when you have to face you, you are more able to cope with the situation (if this makes sense). When you are stressed, it is harder for you to process situations and deal with them accurately, so take some time for yourself.
There are many ways to keep yourself motivated, a lot of self-help articles will tell you that, and they might be true, but the reality is that, at some point it all boils down to forcing yourself a certain discipline. If anything else doesn't help, force a different routine and motivation will follow
