Do I have depression?

I have not been diagnosed with depression, but I have looked over the symptoms of depression and have found that I meet almost every one. I have also taken the quiz on here, and have gotten the result of "Severely Deppressed." I have also scrolled through the depression tag on Tumblr, and have found that I relate to almost everything. I feel really stupid and dumb trying to diagnose myslef, since it is nowhere near a professional diagnosis, but I am genuinley concerned about this. If anyone has any ideas on how to help myself or on how to further diagnose, please reply. Thank you.

Don't feel dumb for doing research on your own. That's the opposite of being dumb! Information is power, and a smart person gathers it

Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, so don't feel dumb for thinking you have it, especially since you researched it. If you have access to a professional that's one way you can get a for sure answer. Depression can affect anyone, no matter what walk of life they come from. If you feel that you need to talk to a professional about it, I'd suggest you do that if you are able to.

It's important to remember that we here at 7Cups are here to help and support you through your journey to self-peace and recovery. <3

Actually most general physician's offices will give you a survey that may ask how often you've felt this during the past two weeks instead of months and even that can lead to innaccuracies. If you've felt this way more than a month it is likely depression and that's coming from someone who's had it and needed help to recover. I'm not a doctor but if I were you I'd go see one to at least see what your options for treatment are where you live. Hopefully you're in an area with good health programs in place. Either way 7cups is great place to maintain mental health especially in the lower part of the path menu.

Thank you to everyone for their nice words and good vibes. I feel as though I should tell my mother about how I'm feeling, or at least a relative or friend that I trust. The only problems I'm having are that I don't like asking anyone for help, and that I'm scared to. I don't like talking to anyone about my problems, and joining 7Cups are the first steps I've taken. Secondly, I am afraid that I will be judged, as mental illness isn't treated as real illness by some. I haven't had much experience with these things at all.
