*Trigger warning*

Hi. My name is Lauren I just turned 18 years old.

At 12 years old I was sexually abused. That was the time I started self harming and getting suicidal.

I received therapy for 2 years at 16 / 17 for witnessing domestic violence but not about the sexual abuse because I couldn't talk about it. I was discharged mid last year.

I was doing so good until this year slowly I've started getting unhappy and urges again and memories of the abuse are coming back to haunt me.

I feel ready to talk about it but I'm just petrified about going to a doctor or telling family/friends (i've never told anyone about the sexual abuse).

I'm scared of what they will do or say because I have never told anyone until now.

Have I left it too late? What if no one believes me?

It's never too late. Some people need time to come to terms with what they experienced until they feel ready to tell anyone about it because it's such a personal and horrible memory. But there will always be people out there who believe you and will do anything to support you.

I think talking to someone will really help get you on the right path to healing. You just need to find the right person who will listen to you and really understand what you're telling them without judgement, someone who will make you feel safe and comfortable. It will be very hard to talk about but talking about the things that haunt you is also a type of therapy because then it doesn't feel like you're carrying the burden all alone.

I really hope you find a way to deal with these memories in a healthy way and move into a stage of your life where you feel happier and feel like you are able to move on. You deserve happiness and a life without pain. Keep fighting - Love DA
