Getting help pushed me away from my dad

Just kinda asking advice/ ranting. After years of depression, I sought help and my mom helped me find a therapist. She takes me to every session, and checks up on me and even though she doesn't always understand she really tries to help me get better and be happier. My dad however, has never gone to my therapy, although he says he'll go if "I ask him to" and he has never even used the word depression to describe what I'm going through. I used to be close with my dad but now that I'm really needing support and learning to get help, I feel like I can't talk to him at all.

After a while I've started avoiding him even about the little things because im sick of it. Not sure how to handle this

I'm sorry to hear your dad doesn't seem to be very supportive of your recovery. Sometimes people avoid topics like depression due to lack of understanding or stigma, even if they still love you and don't mean to hurt you. Of course, this explanation does not excuse their behaviour and ideally, your father could be just as supportive of your recovery efforts as your mother is. What ways have you considered approaching the problem with? Perhaps brainstorming a few ideas and comparing their pros and cons of each may help you find a solution to how you want to talk to your dad about this. I hope he will be more understanding and supportive of you!
