Guilty
Earlier today I was reminded of people who are still happy despite hard circumstances, and that just made me feel some things. Guilty things. Like, these people are still able to make life the best of it, and are still able to smile even though their life circumstances are worse than mine. How are they able to feel that way? Like, should I really be feeling hopeless then? I should be enjoying myself right? Ugh, I just don't think I should feel emptiness and sadness. Like I don't have the right.
I completely identify with this feeling. Every time I think about all the people in worse situations than I am or all the people who became successful after growing up in a hard environment, I think I'm a failure and I'm weak. It's helped me to try to always remind myself that depression is an illness - a mood disorder. Mood disorders are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain, and while hard situations can trigger depressed episodes, your situation does not determine whether you have depression. You didn't choose to be depressed, and you have every right to feel depressed. Since depression is an illness, thinking that a depressed person doesn't have a right to be depressed is kind of like saying that a diabetic person should feel guilty for not being able to produce insulin.
Always try to remind yourself that it's not your fault. Like the conditions you're in, you can't choose whether or not you're depressed, you can only live your best life while battling depression. I hope this helps!
@lightTortoise1929 said it very well. Everyone is different. We have different genetic and chemical make-ups. We have different life situations, experiences, relationships, thoughts, and beliefs. Everything goes together. there are some rich and famous people who seem to have everything going along perfectly; however, they can be so depressed or have other illnesses. Some end up committing suicide or overdose trying to self-medicate on alcohol or prescription/illegal drugs...or being addicted. Like Tortoise said, it really has very little to do with situation. Be kind to yourself and tell yourself that you shouldn't feel guilty.
@mimameid
I take these smile as motivation:) even in midst of pain everyone wants to smile. There is nothing to feel guilty about, as you are different person, and deal with you circumstances differently, comparing is not going to change the out come of your effort.
If you find such people just tell them they are doing great or tell to yourself i will do my best.
Life is no rush take your time and live it slowly.
no matter how far your hope is, you are getting there.
Don't be hard on yourself, guilt is a feeling which pulls you down tends to drifts you from who you really want to be.
Maybe you should be grateful you see such people than feeling hopeless and empty.
I Understand but a change of perspective is always a good start ^^<3
Getting it off your chest is a wonderful thing you did today, you are not alone Sweet heart<3 keep trying
@mimameid I feel the same way... It's like you feel you don't have the right to feel what you feel because others go through worse things .... And at the same time I realised I had to also stop myself from almost also going the opposite way, especially when it comes to my special needs child and people are saying how they battle with their kids and I have to stop that opposite feeling, because Ive come to realise for every person they walk their own journey and their feelings whether less or more in my view are just as impacting and valid in their lives and mine are also just as valid in mine.
I read somewhere that its like saying I cant be happy because others are less happy then me... Its very difficult, I still battle, i also think its a way of trying to minimalise the things we feel so that they don't hurt so much.....
