Had something to ask..
My question is : How to force yourself to do things, that are beneficial to you but you just are not in the mood / interest to do it. Eg: going to the gym, reading books, staying active, performing daily chores and several others.
All the above things ifdone regularly can lead to positive outcomes. But these days because of depression perhaps, I am not in the mood to do any of them.I try to drag myself but after a point in time I lose eventually. My mind starts playing tricks with me and I fall in the trap which leads to misery and failure.
Thanks for replying.

I would suggest to set yourself a small reward for any task which you think might be beneficial to you. By doing so not only would you feel more engaged, you will also feel more motivated and empowered to take on additional tasks by gaining confidence.
Trick your mind before it tricks you.
Best way is to tell yourself that a certain reward will be given if you completed this task. For an example when small kids get sort of sweets after they got shots. But this particular reward that you promise to give yourself should be something that you love or enjoy. that way you can have your motivation level up.

What works for me sometimes is to break down the task into tiny componenets. So, the thought of cleaning the kitchen is too much. But I can wipe a counter. After that, I can put the dishes in the dishwasher. You get the idea. When something seems too much, I can do a little part of that. Then I can do the next little part. When it works for me, I can build enough momentum to do what I should do.
What the posters above said about rewards is a good method too. I used this on my kids when they felt defeated with pages of math homework or something. I'd have them count out how many problems they had to do and put out that many M&Ms (or something). They could have one after each problem was completed. As the candy pile got smaller, so did the workload.
