How has Depression changed your life?
There was a time when you were once happy. You were positive, you cared about yourself and others.
But then..something inside you began to change. Thoughts began to change. Your whole outlook changed.
Where all you could see was darkness. Now you feel hopeless. You lose interest. You become a hermit.
When you're in bed all day because of depression, you blame yourself because you didn't get things done. That's called JUDGING YOURSELF!
It's so easy to judge yourself for having bad thoughts. But have you ever judged someone else on thsir illness or what they think? If someone said to you, "I'm perfect, I always do everything right but today I messed up. Now I'm a failure." Most of you would disagree with that, so why can't you disagree with your thoughts?
Because you're ATTACHED to your thoughts. You dwell so much on what you think, that you're actually letting your thoughts control you. You're not attached to other people's thoughts, so it's easier for you to disagree.
I'd like for those of you who relate to this, to respond to this thread with a solution on how one might become unattached to their thoughts.
It changed a lot of things in my life. It made me very cold, distanced and unapprocheable but at the same time made me want to cry out for help too. It was a tough time and I still struggle with it. It helps to talk about and at times I feeel happiness too but it ceases to last.
But, at least now, I am not controlled by it rather I strive to rise above it. <3
@BlueButterfly4 For me, depression made me more empathetic. I'm better able to understand people and it makes me a better social worker. It helped me to keep repeating the phrase, "it's a bad day, not a bad life" in my head when I would start to internalize when things would go wrong and it really helped me. I used to also struggle with an impulse to self harm and it helped me to tell myself, "make a different choice." These things were hard and took alot of effort and energy, but in the the long run it was extremely worth it.
@BlueButterfly4 How has depression changed my life.
Isolated myself. I do not trust people anymore. Indecisive cannot make a decision on the smallest of things.
Overthink every little thing. Unmotivated. Tears slip out of nowhere without warning. Just do not have the energy to
get ready for the day unless I have to. Terrified someone will stop over and see me still in my jammies unkept.
Snapping at the littlest of issues. Weight issues from over eating. Uncontrolled diabetes because it is exhausting to take care
of my medical issues. But I can Lick this Depression !!
