How to help wife with anxiety and depression

My wife has deal with depression and anxiety for the last 2-3 years. She has her highs and lows but functions as if everything is ok. She has been on medication during this time. She is a shell of her former self at times, but her mood and anger has been directed towards my family interactions I have with my family. I have followed her lead as to what interaction she wants to have that she decided to no be around them. She hasn't seen them for 1.5 years but still finds new ways to not be happy with them. I have distanced myself from my family during that time. She also has anger towards my oldest in college for what I see as the littlest things (Not saying thank you all the time, not staying a night at home when she stops by, etc.). She has recently gone to see a therapist (don't know how long, believe 2 - 3 weeks), and she claims I have broke her down during our 20+ years of marriage. I love and adore my wife, but no matter what I do I can't please her. Its her mood swings once elevated that is going to ruin my marriage. Looking for advice from the community as my heart is breaking and my world is falling apart.

Your pain and struggle is so evident in your words and emotions here. First of all, great job to you for trying your best to figure out how to best support your wife. It sounds like it is painful not just to you, but to other family members as well. I know you mentioned that she has started seeing a therapist, but I am wondering if it would be helpful for you to have a few sessions together? That would maybe give you an opportunity to work together to describe how things have been going and would also maybe allow you to have insight into how she is approaching things.

Or if that is not an option that you are comfortable with or your wife would agree to, then maybe it could help for you to talk to a therapist yourself. You deserve support too.

And of course, you found us here on 7cups! We are here for you and this is a great place to process your feelings. You are not alone.

Sending you vibes for clarity and peace ❤️
