Overcoming depression is never easy, but learning how to train your brain to avoid negative thoughts can help.

Use these three steps to train your brain to stop depression:

1. Focus on the future.
Feelings of sadness often come from events that have happened in the past. To move forward, you must turn your attention to the future. Allowing the past to have a negative influence on you will affect your present and your future. As difficult as it may be, you must tell yourself that reliving events from the past will continue to have a negative effect on your life. Find a way to make peace with the past and move on. You may not forget what happened, but you can say that you are brave enough to move forward in order to create a better life for yourself.

2. Stop comparing yourself to others.
With the popularity of social media, it seems that more and more people are comparing themselves to others. You can see someone else's life and wish it were yours. You may be jealous of your possessions, social status or success. When you compare yourself to others, you are letting them steal your joy. You are making your own life seem insignificant. Stop making comparisons. It is important to know that you are unique and beautiful. You have your own things to offer the world. If you need to delete your social media pages, do so. Don't waste another minute feeling jealous of another person. Instead, work to make your life more fulfilling.

3. Train your brain to not repress thoughts and feelings.
Everyone has negative thoughts and feelings from time to time. You may think that avoiding them will help prevent depression, but it is not so. Research has shown that suppression of negative thoughts is actually associated with "obsessive thinking and emotional reactivity". To avoid becoming depressed, learn to watch your negative thoughts and emotions as they happen. Train your brain to recognize them and tell yourself that a negative thought does not need to define you.

@KACOSMIC

I embraced it as all the things I could not defeat, I embraced it, made it part of me. I was born on St.George's day, slayer of the dragon and at the same time in the year of the fire dragon...I stopped fighting dragons and instead embraced them and engulfed them in me...

Nonetgeless, the accademic value of your writings is logical, I just hope it can help at least 1% of us lost ones....

And am happy you broke free...you got your will back...(maybe someone was there to help you).

I had my will to live back but also it is something that i have to work on everyday, i had no one who was there for me when i most needed, also i have no one now in my life who i can ask for help if i need.
I fight everyday to not lose my will to live again and i confess that it is not easy, i have so many reasons that make me think to not fight anymore, but i try to not give up.

I hope that you can get back your will to live, you deserve it.smiley
