I don
My first time posting. Im diagnosed bipolar/anxiety/depression/ocd. The depression is hitting me hard currently. I got a divorce 1year ago next month. Since then I have found the love of my life. I have two children with my ex husbad. They are still young. My partner lives out of state. I wish I could move there. There is nothing for me here. I lost my friends in the divorce. I have one family member that talks to me on a daily basis. My mom is not in the picture and my dad is only when he wants to be. My ex husband has a huge family, friends, good job. No reason for him to go anywhere. I feel like I dont belong here. There is nothing here for me. My partner has a huge family, lots of friends, in a beautiful state. I want to move so bad, but Im stuck. My ex husband would never let me leave with the kids. We have joint custody and he would never let that happen. So while he is enjoying his life, Im miserable. Im dropping into depression again and it sucks. Does anyone have any advice?
@Hellothere0609 I have advice, but not the easy kind to hear.
Depression can definitely be brought on by stressful and unpleasant life circumstances. You've been through the wringer, and I am so sorry you are hurting. Loneliness and isolation are so difficult, and exacerbated by depression, which becomes a vicious circle.
The problem with that truth is that it creates a logical fallacy that if we change our life circumstances, the depression will lift and we'll be happy. I think everyone who has experienced depression feels this way. If we get the right job, the perfect guy, the better city, we'll feel better.
And while a change in circumstances CAN alleviate suffering, it is usually temporary. If we haven't done the inner work of healing and resilience, the next thing that goes wrong will bring the depression back full force.
If you aren't already seeing a therapist, it sounds like you could really use one to help you figure out how to make the most of your current life circumstances, if you don't want to move far from your kid.
