I feel so strange this week. I feel very helpless right now.
I'm a Christian social worker. I work for my church. The beginning of the story is that the clergy of my church asked me to help him build up the church, write some social service project proposals, find resources and get fundings. At first I agreed with their beliefs and promised to change my career plan and work with them. Recently, I found that they exploit their authority to gather people to do things for their own wants. They even ask me to do something illegal that contradicts my professional beliefs and violates the ethical code. I trusted them. I feel so helpless now. I changed my life plan because of the trust and the relationship with them. I wanted to work with them due to my christian beliefs, but when I realized that they were not in the least like Christians, I feel so depressed. I feel so strange these weeks. I just need to vent this all out anyway. I think I wouldn't report them to the police, but I decided to leave this church and stop the work relationship. I will try to make excuses to not do the things. I told them the things are illegal and they shouldn't do that, but they didn't take my advice and they believed they were right and I was exaggerating the consequences. I think I wouldn't disclose what I feel 100% and scold them, but I will leave the church gently.
Your values and your beliefs are what make you you. You know that its wrong, but you have to make the right decision wether to continue working with them knowing its going against everything you believe in, and making you very down, or you can leave and start fresh somewhere else. Remember there arent always good people in life, and thats not your fault that you cant change them. What you can do though is simply not be around them not to intoxicate your environment.
