I feel trapped
My mom won't let me out of the house. I'm the kind of person who needs a creative outlet, or to see things and be in touch with either nature or the "outside world" as in outside the house. Every time I want to do anything, she says no and gives some excuse why I can't. My birthday is no exception.
She keeps me in the house like a bird in a cage... and these are simple things like rollerskating or visiting a craft store to get things for a collage or embellishing clothes or going to antique shops, or going to the park and walking around under the big pine trees. Can't do that, it's either too hot or someone will kidnap me, I'll get taken, too much money, there's nothing to do there, blah blah blah. I wanted to go to the county fair so badly this year and it's a coastal town and she complained about the heat when it's actually 20 degrees cooler than it is out here in the desert. I wanted to have an experience, get my face painted, get some henna tattoos, have my palm read, look at the garden. NOPE! Can't.
It's not like I'm asking for a $200+ facial and massage at a luxury spa or something, it's like she won't let me out of the house.
She didn't even let me drive up the road to photograph the full moon the other night??? She had a tantrum, bending it out of proportion because she thought driving literally up a small hill less than a minute away from our house would get me into a car crash and I had to wait until she fell asleep to take pictures from the yard because she made me "promise" her I wouldn't go outside. I'm not a minor.
I have learning disabilities that keep me in community college full time, but where I'm living it's hard for me to find a job and I have one that barely pays my phone and car insurance bills. I'm indebted to her because I needed braces and she paid for them all up front but she wants her money back, so my every paycheck belongs to her. Because of this, I have to depend on her for living support (food+shelter). It's not like I can just "move out", that tired old quick fix doesn't apply to my situation. What I'm asking is if anyone else has been in this situation, OR if anyone else is experiencing something similar. I'm beginning to feel like a machine, like I'm not a person and I'm losing touch with my emotional spectrum. I can either feel depression and a crushing sadness or nothing at all, totally devoid. I don't feel alive, I don't feel special, I don't enjoy my life anymore.
@stydia put up with your sitation and later you will become independent and move out. It's only a short time before it happens. and don't think you will be too old for this. It is happening for me and I'm 30. you know it was hard and my mum is definitely a lot worse than yours, it was hell living with her and her husband, but I'm moving out soon. the only problem is I will miss my dogs for a short time before I take them to my place. I'm moving far away. you'll do the same. don't worry. it will inevitably happen.
