I hate myself because I'm stupid
The title pretty much says it all. I'm seventeen and I'm stupid. I am terrible at math, and I can't do anything right. People laugh at me because I always say stupid things. I feel like I chose to be stupid. I chose to slack off in class. I chose to sit in front of the Tv instead of studying. I have decided to study more now, but what's the point? I'm almost an adult: I've already irreversibly screwed up my life. My boyfriend is a genius and I feel like I'm not good enough for him. He tells me I'm smart, but I feel like he's lying. I feel hopeless. I apologize for whining, but I need to vent about this. I don't know what to do.
Please don't be that hard on yourself Trust me i know exactly how you feel you need to relax for a bit I'm terrible at math as well and I know how it feels to say stupid stuff and get laughed at but you've got a long life ahead of you so don't let anything hold you back not math not studying not anything and screw the people who laugh at you you're better than them and don't let them bother you just ignore them and be happy π
Also I'm sure your boyfriend loves you for you not for how smart you are but who you are he's probably thinking he's the luckiest guy in the world to have you
Thank you so much for your kindness. I have the feeling he likes me a lot, but I guess I don't feel worthy of his affection. I feel like he'll eventually get fed up and decide he wants to be with someone smarter.
He was put in your life for a reason π I don't think he'd want anyone but you it doesn't matter how smart you are what matters is that you care for each other and are there for each other when needed don't worry if you both love and understand one another I'm sure he won't care how smart you are just that you're in his life π if you ever need anyone or anything don't be afraid to ask I'll be here for you π
You are not stupid. I want to assure you, you are not stupid. Nobody is stupid. We all learn on our own pace. There could be variety of factors as to why you have difficulty focusing on your academics.
I used to and I still struggle to this day with focusing on studying. My mind gets lost somewhere and I can never retain information for long periods of time because of it. And your proficiency in math says nothing about your intelligence. My friend once told me that being good in a certain subject isn't an indicator of how 'smart' you are. You might just need more time focusing on certain concepts, or you're not adapting well to your instructors teaching methods. A lot of people are in the same boat as you(including myself) where we have difficulty with mathematics. If you feel comfortable enough to, you can ask your teachers for help or seek out tutoring to supplement your education.
I'm in kind of a similar situation as you. My boyfriend is this really brilliant guy, amazing at math and physics and history, whereas I'm not. He's worldly, whereas I've never even been out of my home state. I get the feeling that I'm not good enough for him sometimes.
But I know I have my own strengths and positive qualities, and I want you to know that you do too.
I try to remind myself that I shouldn't compare myself to others, and base my self worth in comparison to them. I think you are worth it, I think you're a valuable human being who has something to contribute to this world. And you are not a failure because you're still learning and trying. Even if your path to success has more twists and turns than those who seem like they have it all down in life, it still doesn't make you any less valid. It makes you strong for trying to persevere.
And those people who laugh at you, their opinions don't matter. They just intend to hurt others without caring about the consequences. But I want to tell you that for every person like them, there are people who care about you and want you to succeed. And the ones who care about you are the only ones who really matter.
Sending you all my love and hope, you can do it <3
Thanks for your kindness. That is very true, you can't base someones intelligence on their skills in one area. I guess I just feel like I'm slow overall, like there's nothing I'm good at. I should also mention that I have ocd, which manifests itself in extreme perfectionism in my case. But I'm not sure if this is just my ocd or if I actually am as stupid as I think. I really appreciate your comment.
I have similar problems; I feel like I'm stupid/incapable. It's a terrible feeling and I'd like to share my thoughts about this with you.
I believe that we all have potential. It's there, even if we don't feel like it is. Every day, we're hindering ourselves with our thoughts and denying ourselves of the very things that we know will make us feel good. One of these things is self-love. Self-love is needed to unlock our full potential, because without it we don't even feel worthy of trying.
So, I just wanted to let you know that it's possible for you to reach your full potential. And don't let ANYONE tell you that you're not capable. Including yourself. Even if you get a low test grade. Even if somebody tells you you're smart and you know they're lying (which is probably not true, but our minds trick us into thinking this is the truth). Even if someone else appears to be more intelligent.
Sending positive energy to you.
