I've started being depressed again.

Hello.

School had just started almost a month or two ago. A few weeks into school we found out a Student in our class had comitted suicide, and he sat next to me. The day I found out it triggered me, and made me feel depressed. Ever since then I've also been having suicidal thoughts. I guess because I wish I could've helped, or would've at least known so I could've helped him somehow or got him help. I was doing fine, especially because it was the summer. Being away from school, and just with my family made me really happy I wasn't depressed. Then when I found out, it just changed things.

I wasn't close with him, but - it still was sad.

I guess, do you guys maybe have some advice to not be so depressed? It's been interfering with school.

Thank you.

Oh, I am feeling sad for you too. There is no way that something that close to you could NOT be unsettling.

Of course, there are always the "what could I have done" questions in any suicide. Unfortunately, there are no answers, which makes it hard to bear. I think it is healthy that you recognize your personal pain, and the reason for it. Sometimes, you can allow yourself designated times to feel the sadness, and then get back to school, and other things that you enjoy. If you find grades are slipping, or just that you are sad too much of the time, don't hesitate to reach out to a Listener. And it goes without saying, if you are considering harming yourself and the suidical thoughts are intense, call a suicide hotline. I haven't met you, but I can picture your pain and I do care. here's a hug.
