Losing interest in everything
I've been noticing more and more that lately my interest in...basically everything has lessened significantly. I don't feel like hanging out with people, being on social media, doing important things like applying for jobs (I just completed a temporary job but it ended and I really need to find another one soon), going outside, etc. The only things I feel like I have a genuine interest in are books. It's just like a large bout of apathy has washed over me and I'm not really sure why. Could it be due to circumstances in life? I'm not exactly where I want to be in life and am kind of lost, but I know it could be so much worse.
I haven't taken medication for anxiety and depression in a long while because I felt like I didn't need it and I could deal with it. I don't even know if what I'm feeling even IS a sign that I still have mild depression. I was thinking that perhaps the depression could be caused by my hypothyroidism, but I got it tested and my levels were in the normal range. However, I heard that you can still experience symptoms even if your levels are normal, so I don't know.
Anyway, how do y'all deal when you don't have interest in anything anymore? I feel bad because I love my friends...but I just haven't been feeling up to visiting them.
@mimameid Losing interest in things is probably one of the hardest things I have had to deal with, because I used to say that I was interested in everything (and I truly was). But now, things don't spark any kind of joy in me. I honestly don't really care about things anymore.
So, how do I deal with it, well, I try to push through it. I try to stay active, at least my mind, so that I don't dwell on anything. When I am at home, I always have a movie playing, I play games on my computer, I chat. This just helps me get through the day, and ultimately, it's not anything I'm really interested in. It's just time wasters.
I wish I wanted to read, because I remember how much I loved reading books. Getting lost in books, living in the fantasy that the book creates can be very therapeutic. I often think that when people become apathetic that it is necessary. We need to recharge, regroup, re-emerge, as long as it doesn't go on to long. If it does, then it's important to seek some kind of help to get through it.

That's a very interesting perspective. I never really thought of apathy as being somehow necessary before. But perhaps it could be a sign that something in my life or habits need to change.
@mimameid I forced myself into apathy because of a job I had. I would stress about my performance and the possibility of getting in trouble because of it. I decided I needed to not care, so I became apathetic about my job. It reduced my stress level and helped me stay in the job.
BUT, the apathy spread to other areas of my life. I am no longer in that job, thank goodness, but I am still trying to come back from the apathy lol. It was definitely useful for me at the time, but not so much right now.
I think that people often become apathetic when they are dealing with some sort of stress or grief, like in my situation. it might not be a healthy coping mechanism, but it served its purpose for me.
@mimameid
you just described and explained what i've been going through; though i have a job, i still feel depressed and lost. feels like i don't belong there.
@mimameid and yeah books are what i only want right now in my life.
@mimameid
I force myself. Might not work for everyone, but sitting at home doing nothing is exactly what depression wants. Will you obey depression?
Is not easy, actually is one of the worst things about depression. But you have to kick its ass. FInd little motives to go out, find any excuse to do a new hobbie, etc.
